The Annual Town Meeting is a time-honored tradition that embodies the truest form of direct democracy. Our Annual Town Meeting will be at 6 pm on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, in the Township Hall (1019 27th Ave., Rock Island). All citizens who are registered to vote in South Rock Island Township are eligible to participate in and vote on topics presented at this meeting. This is the second Annual Town Meeting at which I have had the honor and privilege of serving as your Town Clerk.

In the past, the Annual Town Meeting has been a perfunctory affair with few attendees, though this year and in the future, it is my goal to make it more constructive and increase resident participation. For example, this year I will prepare a resolutions:
  • supporting community police,
  • establishing Township Resident Awards
  • commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the End of World War II,
  • and other routine resolutions supporting health care services and crime prevention services from the Township.

If you have other ideas for the Annual Town Meeting, I’d like to hear from you! Please email me at

The Town Clerk is responsible for keeping all Township records safe from damage and making sure they’re open to the public. One way we make the records available to you is by posting the minutes of each Township Board meeting on the Internet. When I became Town Clerk, I began keeping fully detailed minutes of the meetings that include information about how money is being spent and how each Trustee votes on important issues. I am beginning work to go through past records to improve their organization and presentation so that these important documents can be preserved and viewed for decades to come. Supervisor Shirk and I believe it is important that we serve you and do our work at a higher standard!

You can access the minutes at, and as always, you can come by the office and inspect the full record! I think you’ll find that our Township Officials work very hard to make sure everything operates efficiently and that important services are provided to our residents at a low cost to taxpayers.
