Human Resources Committee Report for October 2016

posted Oct 27, 2016, 6:22 PM by Nick Camlin   [ updated Oct 27, 2016, 6:22 PM ]

The Human Resources Committee met on Tuesday morning, October 11, 2016.

We approved the minutes of the September meeting.

We authorized resolutions for funds, claims, and treasurer’s disbursements.

Quite often our work on the Committee deals with setting policy and sometimes making unpopular decisions, but every now and then we must honor the hardworking employees of the County. This month we recognized April Palmer and the County Auditor’s office for once again earning the Award of Financial Achievement from the Government Finance Officers Association for their comprehensive annual financial report. This report has been posted on the Auditor’s website for the better part of two decades; it is easy to find, easy to read, and easy to follow; it clearly communicates to stakeholders and residents the financial story of the County. The Auditor’s office attained “proficient” in every category this year. Simply, April Palmer and her staff present the financial reports in the spirit of full disclosure.

We reviewed drafts of proposed employee policies and heard extensive comments on each and provided some direction. County Board members, elected officials, department heads, and union leaders were emailed these drafts last month as well. Dr Ross will send the policies to the State’s Attorney for review and bring final drafts to the committee with any recommended changes to the November HR Committee. If you have any suggestions or questions, please see Dr Ross immediately.

The Committee also heard reports from the County Auditor, the Health Insurance Planning Committee, and the Human Resources Director.
